There is a guy at work who has an 05 or 06 GMC w the Duramax. He has the Edge Juice w Attitude in it and stock intake and exhaust. I will be running an 01 PSD with 6637 and DP Tunes and stock exhaust till I figure out what to do in that catagory.
He has been telling me to get the Edge and I keep telling him that I have something better in mind. I know Duramax's are fast, but will I have enough to take him w DP Tunes?

PS - I have been talking some pretty serious smack so please tell me what I want to hear

 

DO NOT GET THE EDGE!!

The edge juice module ONLY alters the fuel rate by fooling the PCM into thinking that the Injection Control Pressure is lower than it really is so the PCM bumps up the pressure. There is NO provision for transmission line pressure or shift points. Trust me, the shifts will SUCK!! They'll be slow, sloppy, and worse yet, they'll burn your friction material. You'll get a little more power for your $$......and your tranny will shift like ****.

Get the DP tuner. Just do it. You'll get A LOT more power for your $$ and your transmission will thank you for it. The line pressure and shift points are fine-tuned to give your transmission a fighting chance against slippage....and the power will make it to the ground.

In my experience (since I've put on numerous Edge products), the Duramax LOVES the Edge...and Edge does a good job with the GM line. However, go with someone who KNOWS the 7.3 and get a DP Tuner.

I installed an Edge Juice w/Attitude on a friends early 99. What a joke.

Friend: "The truck has more power, but the transmission shifts like crap."

Me: "Oh, you just spent $450 on the module and display. Now you have to buy the Evolution programmer for $500 to help the shifts...and you still don't have as much power with them stacked as I have with my $425 DP Tuner."

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

If he's programmed/moduled, you'll never beat him. You chipped, him stock....MAYBE (that's a BIG maybe). Enjoy your better mileage and tons more low-end grunt!!!

 

I sure hope you have gauges, with stock exhaust your EGTs will be off the chart. It takes lots of mods for our trucks to compete with the other 2 if they are chiped. Have fun and see what happens.

the early 99 with the computer code of XLE..most chips will not work so well on them..from what i have found out..that computer was only used in some of the early 99's..so the programers were not realy made for them..Jody at DP does have it right..my truck is a rocket....

 

I just got a set of Banks gauges w Pod for 121.05 after shipping and Postal Money Order. I know, I know...Banks sucks. I dug it up and it sounds like they are made by Diprocal (sp) so no big.
So I will have gauges by Wed or so. The 6637 may be on this weekend or maybe after I get the gauges on. I kind of want to see if/how much it drops my EGT's so I may install the 6637 after I do the gauges. I should probably get the DP Tuner ordered unless I can find a good used one. (Where should I go for a new one?)

 

X2 what ron said. My truck feels like it went from stock to insane going with jody tunes over the ts and edge.

Your not going to beat a chipped dmax without spending a ton of money. Race him with a trailer..

Banks equipment does not suck. It is quality stuff but too expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if the gauges were sourced from Danin. If you can get Banks stuff cheap, then go for it. I would stay away from their tunes though. Not the best value for our trucks in terms of performance and price.

 

I had an edge w/attitude monitor and sold it for a dp tuner.best 425 ever spent.should have kept the edge for gauges,i went with the quadzilla commander and only problems with it.

 

Ahh well I disagree with yah on this one Tenn. No disrespect Par'd. JMHO. Also There is one area that Banks has hands down on any other Co that sells equipment for our trucks. Thats there Customer service. It is worse than any one Company that I've ever delt with. This was my experience with Banks. Country

 

I will be taking out my Juice/Attitude and Evolution. DP Tunes will be the replacement. The shifting on the tranny is just awful. Stay away from Edge unless you like the expensive gauge.

 

For our 7.3s, DP-tunes beat any of the generic Edge/Banks/Superchips stuff out there... countless members here have confirmed this.

Unfortunately, your buddy's Dmax will walk all over you in a race, if he's anything other than stock. If he were stock, it'd be close. You should turn him toward EFI Live... it's the best thing out their for the dmax... sorta like our dp-tuner.

 

I know to stay away from Edge. It is going to be DP tunes for me, but he is running the Edge and I was hoping it doesnt work so great in his truck.

 

my brother has the quadzilla 215 hp in his '01 dmax and beat any chipped 7.3 around here.

 

Turbo, Injectors and chip. Along with supporting mods and you'll walk'm. But it get's expensive too. Theres a few of us here that have done this and more. These mods really wake up a PS. But it comes along with a very serious disease. It's called "PMS". HAH HAH HAH!! Would'nt have any other way though>> Country
