Nope. Thats not the mystery quart.

as for the filter, it holds less then a qt also.

I drained everything, filter and all into a pan, and filled qt bottles.
I got 4 and 3/4's

I even turned the engine over with the coil unpluged to get the oil setting in there out.

Thanks for the help gang. I will check the plugs, PCV valve, and compression and check back in.
Best,
Justin

I still have not gotten home to check the plugs, compression, etc.
I did notice soot on the rear bumper. I looks like diesel smoke residue like m old 7.3 IDI used to leave.
I never see it smoke but I think I read somewhere that at high rpm the converter will "burn" up the smoke.
Is this true?
If so can we determine if I am running too many rpm's at 70-75 mph?
I have a 4.10 rear end and a C-6 trans. The truck is a XL model so it does not have a tachometer.
What is the "safe" cruising rpm for my 5.8?
The truck has 152,000 miles and was serviced every 3k like a clock.
I hope it doesn't need an engine but if it does I need to go ahead and do it. I really like the truck. With the utility bed it makes a great work truck for my needs. Other than the oil usage the truck is dead mint. You would have to see it to believe it.
thanks again gang.
Best,
Justin

YOu might just need a re ring and a head job.
Even if serviced well, if poor oil was used, it could have caused a few issues like stuck rings.
I only metion a headjob, because they are great! (for your truck!)

70-75 with 4.10s on a C6 would probably give you some High RPM's. But it shouldn't matter a whole lot.
Start cruzin at 60-65 see if there is any differance.
And install an aftermarket tach. They are fairly easy to install.
The guage wont be totaly accurate, but close enough to help.
