Well after reading a lot here, and browsing through my owners manual, even though Ford said we can go 5k miles between oil changes, I'm probobly going to stick with about 3k, like I always have done with other vehicles.
I really don't want to wait that long for my first change. I keep checking my oil, and its still very clean, so I figured I can get some opinions from the "pro's" here.
When did you guys change your oil for the first time? I'm probobly going to just go ahead and do it next weekend since I already have about 700 miles on the truck now, but I thought we could discuss this a bit.
The thing I can't believe is that the Ford dealer here said it'll be okay till its first 5k, and the owners manual doesn't call for anything until 5k.
I don't know!
Thanks in Advance for any Input on this one.......I really learn a lot from you guys, and its much appreciated!:-X11
I changed the initial oil at 1500 miles, but I'd consider doing it even sooner. Be careful in thinking the way the oil looks indicates if it's clean or not. At assembly, there's bound to be some some shavings, filings, dust, or other debris left behind, IMHO.
I'd consider using synthetic oil, whichever brand your partial to. Again,IMHO, It's worth the difference.
I didn't buy my truck new but if I did I probably woulda changed it at around 1500, and again at 5000 and every 5K after. I use Mobil 1 synthentic and my style of driving suits the 5K recommendations just fine.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Jan-02 AT 11:40 PM (EST)]I think you add more dirt during oil changes ( dirty funnel, when taking the cap off, following the oil down the fill tube, etc.) than would accumulate naturally, otherwise. Too frequent changes, other than initial, is worse than a reasonble (and recommended) interval.
I read in a Mobil 1 brochure at a local specialty lube place, that the 5w-30 actually flows better, down to something like 60 below zero, than regular 5w-20 dino oil.
