I hadn't thought about the steps in a 5th wheel, hasn't been and issue but to some this may be very important.

I have a 32' 5th wheel now and love towing it compared to the 30' TT we used to own. Our TT would dance better than me (which isn't too difficult ) and sway all over the place in a crosswind or when 18 wheelers passed on the highway.

The sway is gone, the overall length of the camper & truck is shorter, the 5th wheel is more stable, and I feel alot more comfortable cruising at 70-75.

But I don't carry anything big in the bed of the pick-up either....

Unhappy Travel trailer break-dance.....

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">I was returning from Nashville a couple of weeks ago after our ARCA race, when up about 100 yards or so ahead of us was a Toyota Tundra towing a travel trailer about 25 feet long or so. I noticed it was in the right lane as was I. We were going about 65 when my wife and I at the same moment said, "That can't be good" as the travel trailer ahead of us veered off the right shoulder. As he corrected it back, the left 2 wheels raised up off the ground. He corrected back right and as he veered into the left lane, of the interstate, he corrected back to the right. The right side tires then departed the ground and the truck and trailer flipped over on the driver's side and slid off to the right shoulder. Everyone else stopped short, but I creeped slowly through the debris and pulled off the shoulder to get the mile marker to let the truckers behind us know what happened. We helped the folks out of the truck and turned off the propane and everyone was fine but the trailer and truck were pretty well trashed. I love my F350 dually even more now, seeing how the Tundra was thrashed around by the trailer. It could have easily been us, but I think we might have faired a little better because of our weight and width. Whatever you decide on, count your lucky stars you are in a Superduty and not something small.....Thank god everyone was OK and it was not us....Drive safe out there.

We looked at a few toy haulers at a show last weeknd and going to another one in Hershy PA. next month. I'm almost sure we'll go the toy hauler route regardless of configuration, though leaning more toward a 5th wheel. Thanks for everyones responces, I liked the one about the donkey trail and the dancing one the best.

Saw the remains of the exact same thing last week heading thru Utah to Vegas. Tundra lost control, jacknifed against the trailer and rolled it in the medium. Don't know if anyone got hurt as they were trying to yank things apart by the time we passed by.

Kinda makes you wonder if he was overweight. Just because you can hitch it up doesn't mean you can safetly tow it.

I find I get better fuel mileage with a 5er over the tt, better aerodynamics!

But the commercials say it can tow 12000 lbs . Had same kind of instace happen to me. I was towing a 30' tt with a Mountianeer. Some of us learn the hard way. Bigger does mean better.

I don't think this was mentioned yet, but it's been my experience from just watching in RV parks, that most have much difficulty backing up under the TT ball, even with their wives giving hand signals. Then the 2nd and 3rd attempts get even harder with everyone watching, etc... Much nicer to just back up to a 5er were you can see exactly what you're doing!

It's fun to watch some of those situations.... When it gets real heated and turns into an argument Mrs. Happy camper ussually storms inside the camper and Mr. Happy camper breaks open a case of beer

I have a 34' 14K trailer with 3 slides. I also have a dually. You can't beat the space. I had actually decided on a TT based on weight and size per cost. Then I stumbled onto this challenger in my neighbor hood for a super steal. I really love the room but would like to down size down the road so I'm not stuck with a dually.

You be happy either way! Just drive safe and mind the weather when traveling. If it gets rough pull over and take a nap.
