i like having tips and tailpipes tho, when was that a bad thing to have, its too many times i see guys with trucks going 1/2 way with their exhaust system and leave rusty ugly piping as there tips. ANyway I am just going to live with this because i wont sacrifice the look of nice tips, and and i dont want to dump it exacty..but are u saying by dumping it at the end of the bullets will eliminate all rasp?
He may not have had rasping sound, however the size of pipe, engine size, length of pipe and etc all had an affect on the overall sound. Just dumping the exhaust with turndowns may not solve his sound issue do to his different set-up.
If your mufflers are clamped into place, you may want to remove the tailpipes after the mufflers to see if the sound changes for better or for worse, rasp wise.
I don't buy the tip THEORY. I have true dual with glasspacks on my 74' with 3.5" Tips 18" long and have no farting or rasp. That tells me the tip size BS does not hold water.
Engine specifications such as cam, displacement fireing orderand etc. as well as overall exhaust size and layout determines the sound. Tips have little affect.
Please Elaborate on what you mean by "better" H-pipe
I never said tailpipes where a bad thing. I like tailpipes if done right. All I'm saying is that I've had bullets on my truck dumped with no farting sound at all. They where 3" though. What size is your exhaust?
I have 2 1/2 inch, with cats. Heres my deal with this exhaust, it sounds pretty damn good and mean, I guess I am going to just avoid that deep acceleration so that farting noise doesnt occur to much. But other than that its very aggressive sounding when not under heavy accleration, so i am pretty satisfied with them, and i do plan to just keep them. I am going to see what the new tips will do if that helps it any, there longer, and have slash tips oppose to the circle tips i have now which i sorta of think cause some of that slapping noise. But we will see, i dont plan to remove this exhaust ever again. I will just keep modding the engine like stated before, like getitng long tube headers next.
Man do i ever love that sound its sounds like its farting but 10x meaner not like a little 4 banger ricer thats farting i would love that sound on my truck
bullets are almost straights (no mufflers). Your going to have popping with it. But they flow well and have basically no restriction, which is why it is going to have a raspy sound.
A clean deep sound that is still fairly loud is going to come from the straight through type mufflers. IE- dynomax and magnaflow
Just my .02
I think it sounds good and would just let it be. If I made any change though, it would be to go with one of the mufflers mentioned above.

The headers should help the sound. I take it you have the stock logs on right now.
Your truck sounds good to me.
I'd at least run it for a little while and see how it sounds after the cats and mufflers bed in.

True dual 2.5", 24" glasspacks no cats, no h-pipe straight out the back.
The truck needs exhaust soon so I 'm going to step down to 2.25" pipe, h-pipe and race bullets in front of each rear tire.
The truck is a reg cab short bed so the exhaust is going to be pretty short, I may see flames.
If you ask me man i love that sound. when i think tough truck i think of that kinda loud, popping noise exactly like your truck makes. i have tryed to get a similar sound with my 95 f-150 5.0 but i cant get it with the single ehaust ive tryed all sorts of different muffers. does your truck have headers on it? my plans are to run hooker long tubes #6907hkr,with the hooker 2 1/4" true dual exhaust kit into a set of dynomax bullet mufflers.
well the deep tone of the bullets is growing on me. I have foundmy nitch with this system, i have foudnt he right power bands to keep it from farting to much. In that video i had the pedal floored the entire time, and even passed that volvo in the video, so it stayed farting the entire time. Everyone around town likes it too so i think i will keep it, now i just need to get some long or short tube headers and call it even. Thank you guys for comments
