[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jan-02 AT 09:04 PM (EST)]Both the 5.4L and 6.8L (V10) have the coil on plug ignition system. No more seperate coil. All plugs have there own...
Okay, I think I'm following you. So to get to the plugs you have to take that one small bolt out on the coil and they are under there?
The drivers side of the block looks pretty easy to get to all 5 plugs, but the passenger side looks like it would be a real *%$#@ to get to the back 4 or 5.
I'm boggled everytime I look under the hood of that beast at all the fancy electronic contraptions all over the place!
At least they made it easy as pie to change the oil and filter. And nothing under the plug or filter to hold oil to spill later on in the driveway!
Your right, I don't really look forward to changing them when it comes due. Luckily it doesn't come due till 100K. Sometimes all those fancy electrical contraptions can be a good thing. Just compare fuel mileage between the old 460 V8 and the V10.
Being a '97 model, the wife's Expy still has "real" plug wires and my truck is an '01 with 9,000 miles... so, I've never messed with the COP system. I thought the coils just popped off. Do you really have to take a bolt out of them first?
As for the oil, there's nothing to "hold" it, but the filter and pan both drain onto the front anti-sway bar making a big mess. I need to get one of those [link:www.fumotovalve.com|Fumoto valves] with the hose attachment.
Actually, even though the plugs are good till 100K, I'd recommend changing them out at 50K. I had a major issue with 100K plugs seizing in the threads on my friends S-10, they just became part of the engine, and this was at 56K! We eventually got them out, with an air ratchet, really gouging up the threads. Just food for thought

Point taken. But then again you were talking about your experiences with a chebby....
That's been my fear too. However, I've not heard one single instance of the valve failing or being damaged. Between here, the "diesel" site, and another F150 site, a lot of people have the valve installed. I'm sure that if it could happen, someone would have reported it. So, I'm starting to get some confidence in it.

I'm in the same boat as you....I'm almost there myself.....I may just go order one and check it out. I don't remember seeing one on their site that fit my V-10 though.....maybe I have to look again!
Dave, look under RV & Motorhome. It list the V10 there.
Thanks for the link NoMo! I have no hesitation getting one. I do, however, have no desire to change my own oil on my driveway in January. This would, at least, make the job a bit more "bearable".
