i have an 87 bii with a 2.9L and a4ld transmission.the tranny has a fresh rebuild, a new torque converter, modulator, fresh fluid, filter, cleaned cooler and lines. But when I try it in gear, it moves only about 2 or 3 inches. This happens in forward or reverse, 4 high, 4 low, and 2 high. Please help. This vehicle has been down for over a year. And now I need it. Thanks for any help.
If you did not align the convertor and pump it will get wiped out in a matter of seconds.
Remove a cooler line and fire it up.
No flow the pump is toast.
who did the rebuild, you or a shop? who put it in? if you put it in did you make sure when you put the converter on it clicked 3 times as you pushed it down while turning ...this makes sure it's in place. If so..then let it run and move it foward and backward to give the pump and converter time to fill up. Make sure to check the fluid after a few times and add if needed.
also make sure transfer case is in 2wd and the shifter linkage is all hooked up correctly.
I Tested The Pressure Using The Port On The Side Of The Tranny Next To The Shifter Linkage. I Did The Rebuild Myself. All New Clutches And Drums, Pistons Springs, Thrust Washers, Etc. The Converter Was Locked In Place. I Am Sure Of It,as I Have Removed And Replacecd It Several Times.
Could This Be A Valve Body Problem? I Know That The ***** Are In The Right Place. But That Is As Far As I Have Been Into The Valve Body. The Local Tranny Shop Said That A Good Cleaning With Brake Cleaner Would Be Good Enough. So I Cleaned It And Made Sure That There Were No Chunks Of Anything Laying In The Maze Of Valleys In The Valve Body. Also, What Is The Correct Band Adjustment? I Was Told To Turn In Until Seated, Then Back Two Full Turns. Thanks A Bunch!!!!
ok. so far this bii has a freshly built tranny, new torque converter, i have just completely taken apart and cleaned the valve body (also, i found the drill hole and springs from the shift kit) and it still won't go. it only rocks a little. this happens in forward and reverse. the only thing left in this bronco's future is about 5 gallons of 87 octane and a pack of matches. can anyone think of anything else that could cause this?
