I don't think so. Its a local Alb truck that I've seen around town a few times. I talked to the guy one day down at Mild 2 Wild and I took some pics of it. Who knows what I did with the pics. Its a 48-54 Chevy with metallic chocolate brown paint. I havent seen it around this summer but then again, I havent been able to make it to any of the cruise nights either.
Bobby
Bobby, I believe that I finally found the truck in the May,04 CCT mag on page 87. It belongs to Terry Farmer and wife of Albuq and is the color you recall with red steelies and wide whites. The pic is a front 3/4 view and only a portion of the bed is shown although the title reads " bed from heaven" it describes the homemade as 2" bent top rails and 16 ga sides welded to rails. It does look cool and matched the line of the Ch**y AD . I could scan if there is any interest and post tomorrow.

I may work on the bedsides this weekend; after I carpet the kids living room. I am focusing on getting the cab ready for spot painting, need to replace passenger side cowl; repair a couple places rear floor area. If weather permits, cab is coming off, frame will see final touch up paint.
I've got all the pieces for the bedsides; picked up the gussets yesterday. Lots of welding to get tubing fastened to box sides.
I also fabbed a glove box out of aluminum, poor mans brake... Vice. then riveted. I'll post pics this weekend, if result is satisfactory.
Made some progress on the truck bed sides Saturday. Got the welds to where I'll probably fill the rest with metal filler. I notice that the stake pockets are slightly different angle than the sides are braked. I'll need to adjust, modify the pockets. Did manage to keep the sides fairly straight; let welds cool between welds. Worked from one end to push the heat to the far end.
Can't wait to see the updated pics. I just purchased a box from a '53 for $100. I know that the stake pockets are not the same and the bolt pattern for the fenders is different but I will be welding my rear fenders back on without the warpage that the PO made.
How much is the new bed going to cost you in total (labour not included)?
I haven't got total cost yet; have purchased all but tailgate and front end section. Still debating using the original front section, but prefer the beaded look of earlier years.
I've got the rails fastened to the sides; next will be stake pockets, gussets before front section. Will also seal both ends of rails.
I posted some pics of cowl repair and bed sides in my gallery.
Made some progress on the truck box this weekend; welded bottom trim pieces to the sides and filled the seams. I built the front piece as per original, then find that the bottom is lower than the sides which I take is normal ? I don't have my CD with original pictures handy but I assume this is correct. I will start with final assembly on box before Xmas if time permits.
I laid out the sides to attach rear fenders but will wait to mount bolts until I have the bed mounted on the frame, I want to ensure the rear wheels are centred in the opening. Our weather was in the minus 20's Celsius so it was fresh in the garage this weekend.

Thanks for the pic Bobby. The bottom flange of the front is about an inch lower than the side flange ; which would put the floor boards resting on the flange of the front and the flange of the sides would rest on top of the floor bed ? Confused yet ?
Posted one more pic of the sides in my gallery, more detail to come in a couple weeks when I get time off again.
Tom,
The bed sides look awesome!!! If I didn't know that you welded the tubing to the bedsides I would think that they were a continuous rolled piece. Very nicely done!!
Yea, I'm a little confused the on the flange issue, but thats ok, I confuse easily....lol
I'm sure you'll get it all figured out

That would be normal and any and all bed kits and home built have been made that way. Did not mean to interupt, but this trew off a guy here in town and he made adjustments before thinking about the thickness of the wood and had to readjust. Just the .02
