HELP!
i have a REAL BAD rough-run condition----(wont hardly get out of it's own way) with a "service engine light".
BUT-the condition comes and goes.
you can shut it off wait a few minutes and good again. or yesterday when i went to rescue the ceo--we stood talking for a minute while it was idleing.
we swapped trucks and when i got in it to bring it home it ran great for 1/2 mile and then the light comes on and back to 30 mph and really rough!
question is: if i take it down to my diesel guy, and it's running fine......will it have stored this problem code--or does it clear when the light goes out???
If it set off the check engine light, then a code is stored. A diesel mechanic with the proper diagnostic tools can easily retrieve them.
From the sounds of it, I'm betting you have a loose UVC harness. You'll probably get an IDM code from it (P1316). If you do, your diesel tech should be able to retrieve the codes from the IDM, and that will tell you which bank of injectors is giving you the problem. That way you know which valve cover to pull off and reconnect the UVC harness.
some time ago i had posted about this same problem......BUT--the differance is:
i had just got done spraying some dirt off the engine SOOOOO....i thought it was related (thought the water had gotten somewhere it wasn't supposed to be.)----now i'm thinking NOT SO RELATED...
i never found that problem before....it just stopped doing it.
i hope to get the chance to get it down to Vinny today. vinny rocks!
you can pic up some grease from Napa made for electrical plugs like sensors and light bulbs..you can also get a can or electrical clean that is fast drying..I got a tuber and can and did every plug I could find..I power wash my engine bay twice a year and had no problems..do not ever use steam to clean a motor..steam will make it in any crack or hole even if the hole is facing down..steam will rise into them spots and cause you problems..
