V10 no muffler?

It's nice to see we V10 owners have our own forum! I'll bring this up again, any noticable loss of mpg or hp/torque when going with a no muffler setup, just a staight through pipe? If so, can someone explain this?

I haven't done what you're asking, but I thought I'd "welcome" ya over anyway. :-)

It's my guess that the cat-forward system provides the necessary design to minimize loss of low-end power. So, removing the muffler shouldn't have a negative effect. There are a couple of guys here that have actually done this... hopefully they will be around soon to give you the REAL scoop.

V10 no muffler?

Iam so sorry Iam yet still a youngh Grasshoper I was mixed up with all these forums so to make it easer i copyed it for you all.

I did it!! Went to muffler shop and had them cut muf off and install straight pipe well they did bend it to fit and weld it and replace hanger. Total $45
WOW!!! when you get on it it is very LOUD but when driving normal its very throughty and it sounds Great!!
As for #s Iam going on a trip to Dallas and will see if it adds MPGs, done the trip a few times before so I know what truck can do.
To me well worth the $45 bucks,so far.

Back to the wood shed

Tim

V10 no muffler?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Dec-01 AT 07:40 PM (EST)]Its nice to see that people are responding to this topic. I posted one back in April and no one responded. I guess I have to give some thanks to this site for adding a V10 forum.
I too have just a straight pipe after the cat on my 2001 F250 V10. I have a 3.5in. pipe with a 4in. chrome tip that is located under the truck. The tip ends between the two rear shocks where my spare tire used to be. I got this setup back in March of this year and since have put about 5500 miles on it. I can't really tell if its increased my mpg because my truck was lifted shortly before with a 12 in. Fabtech suspension lift and 39in Mickeys. I really like the sound of this setup over any muffler that I've heard on the V10. Everyone that has heard my truck also likes the sound. I have been told that it sounds kind of like a diesel, but not as deep and not as loud. When you get on the gas, you can really hear it, but when cruising, it is a very mellow tone. IMO, doing this saves some money and sounds far better. :+
