steering blues

have been away from computer a while working on truck and hope y'all have some help for me. p/s got to where it went from good steering to left and armstrong steering to right to absolutely no p/s. finally got new p/s pump installed and still nothing. any clues? i know the ball joints(?) are in need of repair but wondered if something else could get me by until cash flow improves for the $600+ front end rebuild. thanks in advance for anything the vast wealth of experience out there can tell me.

Sounds like the steering box gave out. This happened on my 90. I replaced it with a rebuilt from NAPA.

That sounds like what happened when the steering box went south on my 94 F250. Easily replaced and even easier sourced, anything from a Ranger P/U to a F350 will fit. I put one from a 88 BroncoII on mine.

much thanks for the wonderful news. at least it's not AS bad as imagined. also good news to know it's an easy fix. seems like everything i've touched lately falls in the septic tank. tried to weld son's bumper on---it fell off. seems like frames aren't what they used to be in the '70s. tried to adjust something on wifes car. now it has $$$ worth of problems including the air conditioner. now she wants me to get rid of the diesel and buy something that burns gas. maybe if i can get the steering fixed she won't fuss as much. thanks again. will got to salvage yard tomorrow and find one.
