any help would be appreciated. My friend has a 2000 F350 diesel and he is very good with mechanics. He works on all of our farm and heavy equipment. Here is what we are stuck on.
His cruise control will not work. Where do we begin to look? He has ruled out the column, but we do not know where to go from there. Is there something simple to check to narrow down what it may be?
Also, exactly how does the cruise in these vehicles work? What sensors let the computer know to increase throttle or decrease? Also, what increases speed?
Thank you
is it a manual or automatic? my didn't work b/c the clutch safety switch was suck as if the clutch was pushed in, also the parking break light can't be on, thats really all i know about the cruise
basically when you set the parking brake u are giving the circuit a ground no ecm input as far as i know for the parking light, the ecm does control the cruise off of the speedo, tach speed(this may only be a manual thing i only know this b/c when my clutch sliped it kicked the cruise off)
Ok, here is a list of what he has changed so far:
Speed sensor on rear end
Switch on master cylinder
Brake switch
Buttons on column
Whole master cylinder and booster assembly
After he changed the master cylinder and bled the brakes, the cruise worked for a day, and then quit again. Is the ABS unit the culprit here?
Thanks guys

I assume he has checked all fuses and relays?
the 2000 still had the power block under the hood in front of the master cylinder, get owners manual and look up relay positions and test them.
Check the connections at the sensor on the master cylinder, I still think there is a problem there. Possibly a short around that area, since you said after you did that it worked for a day.
Send me your email address and I can send you a PDF file with the wiring diagrams for a 2002, which should be almost the same as the 2000, if not exactly the same.
Check the brake lights (all three). I saw a post recently where a guy said a burned out third brake light was keeping the cruise from working. Dunno how of if they are related without going to the diagram....but that's what he posted.
