bad coil?
Hey all, I have a 99 3.0 v6, I don't know dick about mechanics. I have the haynes book and my question is how difficult is it to replace the coil and plugs. Also, second question, I had the tranny replaced and ever since then the truck really slams when downshifing into first, other than that the transmission seems to shift well, no slipping at all. A friend of mine suggested something he thought was called whale sperm? Now, if he's putting me on, you all can start laughing at me, if not any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sporto.

I'm guessing its different for 99s, but I just changed the coil in an 87 today, it was as simple as un-doing 4 bolts, unplugging two cables, bolting the new on one and reconnect the spark and power cables.

Replacing the plugs and wires in your truck should be really simple, but there are a few things to remember that are in fact important. Use only OEM plugs and wires. Autolite makes the Motorcraft brand, so Autolite parts are equivalent. I wouldn't worry about the coil(s) unless you know it to be defective. Use anti-seize on the threads or your next change will be next to impossible.
As for the transmission, change that fluid every 30,000 miles using the gentle flush method, which you can do at home with a simple bucket and a piece of clear vinyl tubing.

If you had the transmission replaced, did they give you a warranty? Even if they didn't, take it back to the shop and tell them what it's doing and that it's not normal and ask what they can do to make it act correctly. They should be able make it run right!
