Shortys vs. longtubes

It looks like a pain to run longtube headers on a 4x4 so, If I ran shortys and a Bassani Y-Pipe would there be a big performance difference? Nobody sells a cross over pipe for longtube, has to be fabricated and welded. Shortys look like they should flow better tan stock manifolds off a truck. GT mustangs came with shortys didnt they?

Yes, shorties will flow better than the stock manifolds and should bolt right in place. If you also replace the restrictive Y pipe/cat you will see HP gains in the upper rpms, without a better flowing Y pipe and cat the gains will be minimal. Longtubes will give you all that plus a hefty low rpm TQ gain. There's lots of room on a 4x4 for 2.5" plumbing behind the longtubes as well, but you'll need the services of somene with a welder or a muffler shop.

I wonder if theres been a dyno comparrison of the two different setups on stock small blocks. The tourqe of the longtubes sound good for a 4x4 truck lugging around. I dont have a hotrod anymore, this truck is all I got and would like to build a mild 351W for weekend abuse one day.
