Checking Battery and Battery Box

I own a 2005 F250 w/6.0 PSD.
This truck has 2 12 volt batteries and
one of them in a battery box with a cover.
The cover is a solid piece of plastic that covers
the battery cell caps. To check the water level in
this battery, I have to disconnect both the positive
and negative terminals from the battery posts.
Does anyone know why Ford would do something so
stupid, and has anyone cut out the center part of
the cover so the terminals do not have to be removed
to check the water.

Thanks,
Keith

My choice of solutions would be to use a non-serviceable(sealed) battery.

I used my saber saw and removed the plactic that was over the caps. Works great!

Great Idea

I thought of the saber saw idea, or Dremel, but i wanted to
get other peoples reactions first.
I also wanted to know why Ford would do such a stupid thing.
