Spare tire size
How important is it that your spare tire be the same size as the one it will be replacing in case of a flat? Can it be 2-3 inches smaller in diameter without causing serious issues? Thanks.

I run 285's and have a 265 spare. If it were any smaller and I had a flat tire up front, I would swap a full size from the back to the front and put the spare on the back. Only reason it would be an issue is if you had a sensitive locker in either diff.

Like Just Ducky said, put the spare up front if you have a limited slip rear. Otherwise don't worry about it. It will probably dirve a little funny, but spare tires are just supposed to be used to get you to a place to fix your driving tire, not to drive on for extended periods of time anyway.

One advantage to having a matching spare(tire and wheel) is that you can do a five-wheel rotation. This will spread tire wear out over five instead of four tires and should yield 25% longer tire life. Granted it is a little more work...
