Okay so I got the truck up and running, and now have to get all the cosmetic work done. The rear window has been shattered and I have a new window from a u-pull it, and am not sure if I can get the window switched out. Is their a trick to getting the old out and my new in??
I found it easy to start at the corner and pull down and push out to the get the window out...to get the window back in, use rope and wrap it in the weather stripping and then pull it out as you work the window back in...I use an extension cord...same thing....it's really not too bad.
If you have the chrome in the weather stripping, it locks the glass in. I would just cut the old weatherstripping out. Buy a new one, the glass a lot easier install with new rubber. A 3/8" rope is a good size. It will take 2 person to do the install. Start the rope on the bottom center. And wrap it around the glass in the weather stripping grove that sets in the window frame. Then have a buddy set the glass in centering it. While he is holding it start pulling out the rope, forcing the weather stripping onto the window frame. Have your buddy keep a light pressure to hold the glass in place. As you work up the side it gets easier.
I use the rope or thick string method and windex to help the rubber seal slide over the metal window opening. Flat glass is pretty easy if you take your time.
two flat screw drivers, start in one of the top corners, work across the top and then down the sides, it'll get to a certain point that you'll just "know" and it's lift out, same thing going back in just reverse, use a soapy cloth to lube the whole stripping, then start at the bottom and work your way to the top, should take you bout 5 mins to get it out, and like 15-20 to get it in. BUT if it is a solid window what ever you do don't bump the glass edge on ANY THING they blow up for some reason (ha ha) i've been there and had to go back to pick and pull for another!
Wave down one of those trucks you see driving around with broken windshields in the bed. I got one to put in a set of glass for $25.00 and a beer. And they have done it enough that they can do it without a break in about 5 min.
thats a cool idea rboeding, i never thought that one. i bought a windshield cheap by asking if it was cheaper if i paid cash. got it for 125.00 down from 150 and its a factory windshield.
