I have heard that operating temperature is considerably higher than that. It needs to at least get to 212 degrees F in order to burn of the moisture that builds up in the oil from condensation. I think that maybe your guage is reading low.
Thanks HKusp, its a new digital gauge from quadzilla and i have been getting alot of mix readings from there gauge,my boost reads 18 lbs w/ a dp tuner set on 80,when my old gauge from edge reads 25lbs and my egt seems to be about 150-200 higher when doing 40-70mph.at idle seems good about 270.
With a 203 stat, running unloaded highway speeds, I run 212-215, per the factory EOT sensor located on the back of the HPOP res.
With the factory stat I never saw higher than 195.
That's very interesting (and useful) info, and confirms my reasons for sticking with the OEM stat! Empty I run around 200, but towing a long steep grade in the summer, I peak out at 240 to 245 at the top, which is as hot as I'd ever want my dino oil to get. BTW, my EOT sensor is located in the fitting at the oil filter, and I think it's reading the temp of the oil coming from the oil cooler tube.
my oil temp reading is taken from the port near the oil filter.
I used to have a oil temp reading of 200-220 and recently have had a reading of 240. I just had my oil analyzed by Blackstone again and there were no signs of oil breakdown due to heat.
I may move the temp sender to the HPOP or add a switch to check both temps
Just for kicks I disconnected the oil temp sensor on the HPOP to make sure that is where my indication was coming from. Appearantly it is not..? Not sure where else the PCM would get the data?? Is the sensor near the filter stock?
That is my understanding too. So I disconnected it and I was still getting an EOT readout on the EDGE II...? Not sure where else it would be sourcing a signal?
I like it. I have been looking at getting the DP tunes put on it, just not sure if the couple hundred bucks is worth it. The unit drove me crazy with cable failures the first couple months, but it seems they have figured those out. For me, with a mildly modified truck, the inclusion of gages and a code reader functions was a pretty attractive package. I also managed to pick it up on a pre-production sale, so at $350 it was hard to pass up.
