I am helping a buddy with his 1955 F100. He has a 351 Cleveland with an Automatic Transmission. There is no Tag on the tranny and I didnt see any markings on the unit. But it was pretty dirty and dark under there.
We are trying to ID it so we can order a speedometer cable. Does anyone know a place we can get info on Visually identifying a Ford Automatic Transmission?
Or if you know where on the unit the marking may be that would help
Behind a Cleveland, it should be a C-6, but could be a C-4 or FMX. The C-6 will be a solid aluminum case tranny, the C-4 will have an aluminum case with a bolt-on bell housing, and the FMX will be a cast iron housing with an aluminum bell housing bolted on.
