I have been getting some "serge" when going up long step hills towing 10K travel trailer, more at 65mph and it does it less at 75mph (little unsafe). Hypertech said to drop down to stage (stage 2) to fix the problem. Two questions.
1. Did dropping to a lower stage help or get rid of your surge?
I don't know anything about Hypertech, but it sounds like you might want to check into custom tunes. I would do a search on K&N filters on here for starters. I hope you have a set of gauges. Looking at most of the sigs. on peoples post might help you get a better idea of what we are doing to get the best towing, and performance tunes. Good luck My .02
It's not the fault of the programmer. You will get surge with any power adder and the more you add the worst it will get.
With my heavily loaded truck and ZF-6 I was able to make surge with stock tuning by flooring the throttle and waiting for the speed of the rig to bleed down on a big hill. It would begin at around 2200 rpm and get worst the slower we would go.
The Wicked Wheel on the intake side cured the surge for me. It's an inexpensive fix at around $80.00 from several different sources by various names. All the same wheel.
And get some gauges, I prefer Isspro because they have a color banding so you can more easily read the gauge while underway. It's alarming how hot the exhaust gets while towing.
I had a hypertech and until you get a WW or ats housing you wont cure it, I ran without gauges for 2weeks and you'd be suprised what those temps are when you think your babying it GET GAUGES!. Oh and sell the tuner and get a DP, trust me!
