Saturday night I went to a buddies to watch the Tyson/Lewis fight (probably 3/4 of vehicles there where blue ovals). After awhile there was a kid that some of my friends knew that was talking smack and saying that he could pull around all of the Ford’s out in the drive way (He had a newer reg. cab short box Z71 1500). Well my buddy Jay offered to tow the kids Chebby around with his ’01 F150. The kid said that was not even worth his time to hook it up and that he needed a SuperDuty to pull. Well Jay asked the kid if he was blind because my SuperDuty was parked next the Jay’s F150. Then the kid said that he wouldn't pull a PSD because he would definitely lose. Jay told him it was a “gasser” and the kid proceeded to talk some more smack. While this was all going on I was not around…Well awhile later I came over and they were telling me about it and I said I had no problems with it. Needless to say he backed down when he found out that just because it was a gasser, it doesn’t mean it’s a V8.
If I may; all the (unbiased) information I've read on the V-10 seems to say that the exhaust and air mods don't do much for actual 'git up and go'. I have a bunch of stuff published by Kenne Bell (THE Ford performance guys IMHO) I'd be glad to send you. I am going to buy the Kenne Bell 'Switch Chip' for my 1998 V-10 that's in my E-350 Club Wagon. Barring the expense of a supercharger, a chip seems to be the best, most cost effective way of increasing real HP and Torque. I like the KB chip so much because of it's ability to be turned off. You can also order it with mapping for towing, racing and power with a return to stock configuration so you can run reg gas. All chips require the use of premium fuel. And I don't know about you, but the thought of carboned up valves and a gunked up engine from an excess of fuel don't appeal much to me. Send me an e-mail @ ksmith@lumber.com and I'll forward most of the KB catalog I copied. It's pretty interesting especially the articles about exhaust/intake mods, and how little performance (if any) they give, Ken
Some of it depends on what they tweak in the chip as well. If the do
not bump timing you can run 87 octane, but you may not get any
performance gain! If they change only the WOT map, you are running
the stock program except when floored.
All that being said, I like the idea of being able to turn off the chip at will a lot, too, Ken.
I always figured if I got a multiprogram chip, I would get one
program with the stock setup.
