Green is running right at 3000 RPMS at 65 MPH. I'm considering going to an underdrive crank pulley. I think spinning the ac and other stuff that fast is costing me in mpg and no really good for the accessories.
Chad said you mentioned something about that, the only thing I would worry about is all the electronics you run might be too much of a load at idle and may not charge well or even damage the battery or alternator. Other than that it might not be a bad idea.
As Duane said, and that would also be a concern for keeping the engine cool when rock crawling or idling in traffic with either a belt driven fan or an electric fan kicking in and pulling a lot of amps.
I didn't know I was voting, but I guess the answer to that is, yes, since you put it that way. As you would say, if my rememberer is working correctly I think I remember one of our off road friends had some issues with cooling related to underdrives keeping the battery charged while off roading and using electric radiator fans.
I don't have a cooling issue. These days. The radiator is new and twice as big as the one that was in Green with the manuel tranny. And it has a brand new HD cooling mechanical fan. The inverter and GPS really doesn't pull a lot of power.
But AC is where I have trouble. It doesn't charge now at idle with the AC on. The engine runs warmer with the AC on but not the tranny. I have the aux. cooler after the radiator cooler and it is in front of everything in the grill so the tranny auxl. cooler gets the coolest air. And mpg is 2-3 less spinning the AC compressor at 3000 rpms. Dosen't sound like a lot but when you are talking 13 vs. 15 or so it can really hurt your range. And almost a 20% drop.
What about a gear change?? it would help your highway mileage rather than hurting it and with the stubbler you wouldn't lose much on the trial, just a thought
Yup, 3.55's would be another way to go. But the axles have been rebuilt and I really didn't want to go to all that expense and work.
Same with the 4" suspension lift. $700 + and I do have 33's I would just need to change wheels and the spare would not fit underneth. So it would have to go in the back or I'd need a tire carrier on the bumper.
Just thought a c-note for a pulley and a few minutes work + maybe a new drive belt would help out and get me by through the next year.
