I have found that over LONG distances, the computer mileage indicator is dead accurate. i have NOT yet tried running the thing out of gas just to see if it would work...HATE WALKING !
The reason I ask...The other day I had 1/8 of tank left and it was telling me that i had 8 miles till empty...seemed kinda strange only 8 miles. Last night thought I traveled from NJ back to md and when I got fuel in Nj it said 302 til empty, So I reset the trip odeometer to see if they would match when I got home. Upon arriving home, I took odometer reading and looked at miles until empty. Odometer was about 58 miles so miles until empty should have read 244 miles but it was at 242. Not bad I guess...
I normally don't pay attention to the miles to empty until the truck is low on fuel. I've noticed that it is very innacurate in that range, typically displaying almost twice the distance to empty the truck actually will travel. For instance, when it reads 70 miles to empty, I'm lucky to go 35-40 miles before it reads 0. I have discovered, twice - incidentally, that my truck will only travel another 10 miles once it hits 0. In that respect, it's actually pretty accurate.

If you pay close attention at these times you may also notice that it tends to tick of f1 mile to empty for about every .6 miles driven. It seems to figure out that it is off, and starts to compensate.
When i first fill mine say with $40 or about 14.5 gallons, itll say like 270 till empty which i never get. However i usually only average 210 or so off of $40. Id say once it starts getting low like 50 or less, mine has been pretty accurate. It must recalculate as you drive b/c once i get to 150, the readout will usally read 50-60 till empty.
Well it seems the gauge is not too accurate until the very end So whats the average amount of miles one can get (ballpark figure of course) with the 44 gallon v-10?

you will see this issue ( V-10 gas mileage) discussed extensively in earlier "threads". This is a great forum. As a new Excursion owner, I was impressed by the info. - most of my own questions have already been answered by others.
Last month we drove 650 miles on one tank on I-80 heading east @ 65mph. When I filled up she took alittle over 3 gallons. My wife calculated we were getting 16.2 mpg on our 2000 V-10 with 4.30 gears and tires at 65psi with air conditioner on. Our truck is stock with 78,000 miles.
What bugs me is that the time or two I ran my '05 V10 EB down to zero miles until empty, I could only pour 36 or 38 gallons into the tank. My '01 V10 Ltd would let me pour in 42 gallons.
