Unbelievable as this sounds, I was smelling gas from my 94 ranger. Mechanic removed the bed and said the neck from the tank to the filler neck is split. Went to junk yard and 2 there were split in the same spot. Dealer price for new one is 375.00. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket one or what I can use to repair the old one?
This is an unfortunate frequent problem with Rangers. Have you tried the sponsor of this forum for Ford parts, http://www.discountfordpartsaty2kford.com/. The neck for my Ranger was considerably cheaper, but not cheap. Other than that if you want to stick with salvage part, why not try one of the online yards and make it clear to them you need one that is intact.
After pulling the bed and removing the neck the crack was in the rubber part of the hose. I just simply cleaned it up and used rubber cement to seal the crack. Then I used electrical tape to wrap the area to hold it until the cement dried. It also will help it not crack again (I hope.)
