Hi
A quick guestion? I have 1000 miles on my F350 with a V10
and I here a weard swoshing sound from the front of the
truck when im driving around 45 mph. It does it just A few times then
it stops. I wasnt sure if it was normal for A V10 or not.
Any input would be great.

At what engine RPM? This may be the typical V-10 "flutter".

The sound is at around 1800-2000 rpm. It pulsates off
and on around 3-4 times.
thanks

Swooshing?? Could it possibly be the fan clutch kicking in? Do you feel a lack of power when it swooshes?

Flutter should sound like pinging and not be heard on newer V10's. (well, let's hope...)

It sounds like your leting air out of an air hose in quick
bursts of 3or 4 bursts. Its a realy wierd sound, I just was
not sure if it was a normal sound for a V10.
Thanks
Dunney
PS. I live in MA also.

Thats the same problem i have ,and its defenently the flutter. My trucks a 2001.The dealer allready changed the y pipe to the more restrictive one which was a mistake. All it did was reduce power and economy.Buy the way,it didnt fix the flutter. From what i hear, headers are the only fix.Im still trying to get ford to pay for them. P.S.I also live in taxachussettes as well.

HEY! Don't fix it! Let's hook up so that I can actually hear The Flutter!

I had ASSumed that it couldn't have been flutter because you only have 1000 miles on your truck and wit hthat few miles it has to be new.

Dunney, where do you live?

I'm in Gardner and nickdoni is from Woburn.

Nickdoni,

Are you sure the new Y pipe cuts performance? Do you
notice it more in a specific rpm range? I sort of thought
the necked down new design like mine has would hurt part
of the power band - wondered if it helps anywhere that
you noticed.

Hitech

My truck developed the flutter at about 5000 miles. At this time i was getting about 15mpg on the hiway. After i brought the truck to the dealer for the new necked down y pipe, milage dropped to about 11mpg and it felt like i had a thousand pounds in the bed.Now i have 23,000mi and not to long ago i had my buddy who owns a custom exaust shop,(lous custom exhaust.com)cut out the necked down part of the y and put in 2.5in pipe. Now milage and performance are back up to where they used to be.I just dont understand why the flutter wasnt there for the first 5000mi?

Kimballs is in Carlisle? I always thought that it was off 495. Is there more than 1? I cannot remember the exact town. (I'm not originally from here) My wife would know.

I'd like to hook up so that I can see Lou's handy work. I still have the e-mail you sent me and am kinda eager to go talk with him but having the time.......well, you know.....

Why don't you e-mail me or private message me and maybe we can hook up!

Hey Dunney, have you revved the engine (1500-2000 rpm) in neutral and heard the noise?? Does it do it? Cause if it doesn't, I've had the same noise since day one! If we've got the same noise, it's gotta be transmission related. I remember a post a while back about a thin metal plate between the engine and trans causing the noise. I'm almost 100% sure this is where my noise is coming from. Anyone remember how the plate was fixed??

I think with a screwdriver. But...

OI! I almost never do this BUT, if you go over to Ford-diesel.com (in the gas forum) and look for the post entitled something like..."Free flutter fix". He tells you his story about that very thing.

WOW! I can see why! I just checked it out for the first time. As soon as I post this I'm gonna take a shower. I feel like somebody rubbed by nose in diesel fuel! Not allowed to post pictures of gassers in the picture forum What's up with that? And the guy abendx has mentioned here... 70CAT or something! There's a guy with a serious attitude problem! Having to constantly see and reply to that guys posts would put me in danger of having a stroke. For someone who hates gassers so much, he seems to post in that forum alot!

Nah! There can't be so much good information there that I would want to subject myself to the aggravation That's one site that definitely thinks [i]'Their Fuel Don't Stink'![i]

I'm done!
