I just bought a New to me '01 SDV10 crew cab Larriet auto 3.73. I love the truck the gas mialage is way better than anyone told me.
The questions I have are
1 I have read here about lack of power. Where does that come from? My brother has a 99 chevy 454 in a drag race I take him to 65 every time then he comes on strong with a trailer the V10 gets a bigger jump but I read that the V10 make hp higer up?
2 I have the auto tranny and Pull a 26' 5th wheel +/- 50k miles a year sould I add a cooler or shift comander?
Yes, add the tranny cooler. Just so your E4OD will last longer and be happier. Heat KILLS automatic transmissions, change your fluid regularly, and keep the tranny cool. A temp gauge wouldn't hurt either, just so you can monitor the temp. A shift kit will help lengthen the trannies life also. More positve shifts=less clutch/band slippage, which again, extends transmission life. Congrats on your new V-10 and welcome to Ford V-10 nuts,,errr uh,,, enthusiasts site.

I'd say you're doing pretty good considering his engine has 39 more cubic inches than yours.I'll bet you get better fuel mileage. The 3.73 axle isn't going to give your truck the most straight line acceleration either. Is his truck a crew cab also?Super Dutys aren't light. If similarly equipped your truck probably weighs more than his.
Headers, performance exhast and a chip will get you more power.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jul-02 AT 07:21 PM (EST)]Hi and welcome. Check the build date on your rig. Gasser '01 units built between July '00 and March 2001 have been recalled for a possible transmission related failure. Call your dealer with the VIN, they should be able to tell you if your truck is effected/has been repaired.
Your '01 should already have an internal radiator trans cooler as well as an external passive cooler. Use your money for a conversion to synthetic ATF.

Welcome to Heaven for your truck and He** for your wallet Daimon! Oh and spoon thanks for that tidbit of info about the tranny! Have to take a look.
Thanks for the welcome! I put a new grill cover on, it will look good when I get the replacment parts parts in the mail. Three of the cheep connectors broke and installing it scratched the stock grill all to heck so no taking it off pluss I left most of three fingers and half my blood on the "very simple bolt on instalation"
At least the company was friendly when I called.
The grill is made by PUTCO I think it is called the hole punch or something like that.
I called Banks and they said that if I use their transcommand unit that the truck has plenty cooling capacity.
