Really depending on what kind of sound and how loud ill tell you know glasspacks are more for the snappy raspy type sound and well can get pretty loud i like the sounds of my flowmaster 40s on my truck really sounds mean and aggresive loud to a degree but not overkill and blarin

For the $ $ Summit has a $15 muffler that sounds great. I replaced Flowmasters with them as I didn't like the Flowmaster Blat blat blat on my 79.

I don't care for flowmaster, and IF I'd spend that much money on a muffler it be on a magnaflow(basically same price, but I'd say they sound better).

Along the lines of budget mufflers, the raptor turbo-style sounds alot like the summits, were about $19/ea but were found local so no shipping charges.

i am a flowmaster lover. i have 2 trucks with them now. when the exhaust finally falls off my 77 it will be dual with 40 series. the glasspacks are too loud. if you want loud, get glasspacks.

Flow masters resonate too much! You know, that annoying bass-y hum at certain rpm's????? Try the performer series from edelbrock. They are nice and melow until you stand on the gas pedal and they have very good flow #'s. They are also made of stainless steel (no rust!).

- A lot- of the sound is not only from mufflers but from tips. If you have a long, wide tip you're going to lower the pitch of sound- that and the size of the pipe you use for exhaust. Expect higher pitches from small diameter exhausts...

Glasspacks can be incredible with the right combination of pipes and tips depending on what kind of a sound you're looking for...

I replaced my glasspacks with the Summit 2.5" turbos, still sound good just not as loud. I guess I'm getting old.
