1990 Bronco
302 AOD
207,000miles on her
No Trouble codes
Now has all new sensors on fuel injection system, New plugs New wires, New Cap and rotor, All new distributor and coil.
I recently had an issue of the beast missing bad when it was warm between 1200 and 2500 rpm's just plain lost power. So I was going to replace the TFI and coil But it turned out the whole distributor needed to be replaced, So that is done and no more power loss she is now steady through out the RPM range and Power is very consistant.
Now current and still part of the problem (which started befor all this) It will start and the rpm's will rev up and down for a minute or two. and occasionally it will not start (I turn the key get one fire and it dies and then will not even attemped to fire) So just for the hell of it I put the pedal to the floor and it will start, Runs like it is loaded up for about 30 sec or so, I have to keep pumping the gass till at smooths out but when it smooths out it runs fine.
Can anybody help. There are no Trouble codes.
Yes I have a new O2 sensor and everything is plugged in. I have not checked the fuel pressure yet. I did just replace the fuel pump cause it went out and I did pull and test it before I replaced it and it was dead. is there a specific gauge? If the pressure was bad would it still run good? (after warm up that is)
Yes there is a special gauge with fittings for the fuel rail. Yes it could still feel like it runs ok but if the regulator is bad it will run on the rich side, and one or more injectors could leak from the presser causing your starting problems. I don’ see you mentioning that you changed your fuel filter. If not you should, an old plugged one can damage your fuel pump.
Thanks for the input. I have put on a new fuel filter, I did that when I changed the pump. I will check the pressure this weekend. Thank you for the input on that.
I have takin the whole assy. apart and cleaned everything and replace every electronic part for it (throttle body that is)
So finaly got the fuel pressure tested and fully monitor'd.. Charges to 40 psi Idles at 35-36 drops no lower then 33 when on the throttle. Still get the occasional (foot to the floor to start) problem.
Well, I have had it with the odd cycles with the Bronco. It is in the shop now and t has been 3 day. No one knows what is going on with this thing. all the sensors are funtioning properly timing is good fuel pressure is good. Now they are getting another machine to run on it to check for one more thing. I will find out today what they come up with.
Well, Here is what I got from the Bickford..... I had 1 O2 sensor switching slow. And I was off 3 degrees. The set the timing back to correct positioning and then discoverd that the injection system was not spraying correctly so they pulled the injection system and cleaned it completly. Needless to say it is runing alot better and I do not have the random idle problem i had and the power seems to be consistant throughout the temp range
