I have a 03 SD and it has 52,000 miles and I recently changed my oil from amsoil to Delo and after about 100 miles the delo got black??? I was running the ams for about 11,200 miles and it was pretty black when I CHANGED IT... Right now the truck on start up is a little different but I WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM FROM CHANGING FROM SYN TO DINO OIL?
I use Delo 15W 40 and my oil will be black soon after a change. I have 68,000 on my truck. I don't think that you have a problem.
We have had this black oil debate here before. Some say it's bad and others say that it isn't just like some say that their oil is always a nice honey color (highly doubtful) and others (like me) that will say their oil turns black not long after a change.
most will notice easier & smother cold start with synthetic...From what I read here ,it almost seems like some of the trucks have a preference to syn or dino...
My oil is black soon after a change. Remember just because you pulled the oil plug, and changed your filter there is still oil in the HPOP res. about 2 qts worth. You also have some hidden in the motor in other places, so what happens? It all mixs and you drive and it will be black. That my take on it.
my truck has so many miles on it I am afraid to change from dino to synth.
You know it might be kinda like your old dog who has eaten the same brand food forever. then you get something else, and all of the sudden the dog has the trots. your wife looks at you and says she just can't figure out whats wrong with the dog.
Anywhoo, the black oil is not bad, it is actually the detergent properties of the oil keeping your wear surfaces clean.
