I have an 03 4x2 and the truck shakes when around 43-50mph. Thinking it was the tires I took it to the shop and had them balanced but it still does it. Sometimes you can feel it in the steering wheel and others just a light bump as if the tires were out of balance. Has anyone else heard of this or know what it might be?
The balljoints are notorious for being worthless on these trucks. Many haven't seen 20K miles out of them--some even less. Looks can be deceiving on balljoints. Do a search for the proper method of checking them and I think you'll be surprised at the amount of material you'll come up with to read on this subject.
Here is an update on what was causing the shaking. The left rear wheel was slightly bent. I replaced the wheel and all is well. It didn’t show up until I had the tires road force balanced.<o></o>
I bought the truck used from the dealership and they put the new tires on. I asked about the shaking when I bought it and they told me it was just out of balance and they added the balancing to the deal. I have a feeling they knew about the wheel but. Lessoned learned on my part. I found the truth out when I took it to my local tire shop to have it looked at after the dealer did it and it still had a problem. I was just glad it wasn't something more expensive like the ball joints.
