vibration in motor???
I recently bought a 99 F250 4WD SC with the V10, 5 speed, and 4.30's. It had 56,000 miles when I bought it and now has 60,000. The dealership put in a new clutch assembly when I bought it as well as new 305 70 16 tires. The problem I will describe was present before the clutch install. When driving on the interstate at speeds between 70 and 80, the truck picks up a drivetrain/motor vibration/hum. It is worse when accelerating and it goes entirely away from 80-95 mph and also if the clutch is pushed in at the vibrating speeds. The truck has a vibrating exhaust sound (flutter) around 2,000 rpm's. There is roughness in the clutch pedal when free-revving. I replaced the rear u-joint and greased the slip yoke (it had play when twisted)thinking that may help, but no change. Is this maybe a normal occurrence with the V10? The exhaust? Any help appreciated.

Well A; anything over 70 mph is illegal (HAHA) and B; no, this vibration you speak of is not normal. I believe you are looking in the right place though. It definately sounds like driveline. Do you have a carrier bearing ? You may check that also. Also the output shaft bearing on your tranny, tires for balance, brakes for drag, out of balance, etc. All the typical stuff, starting at the rear-end and working forward. Is there a feeling that it's coming from the front end ? Rear-end ? Middle ? That will help locate it maybe. I don't recall if you said the vibration was present prior to having the clutch installed, maybe it's out of balance ?
