2000 4.2 dead spot. / hypertech PP3 question

Hey, I have a 2000 f150 4x2 with the 4.2 V6 (149K miles). The problem is that it just feels dead (slow to pick up/seems like I need to use too much throttle to gain RPM's)between 1,500 and 3,000 rpm. I have only had the truck for a couple of weeks, so I don't know if this is normal.

Also, I see that Hypertech lists their Power Programmer 3 for the '97 & '98 F-150 4.2V6, but not the 2000. Has anyone used the PP3 on a 4.2 later than '98, because I would like to know if it can be done.

thanks for your input.
Corbin

Welcome to the forum

You might try cleaning the MAF. It could be dirty causing it to run a bit lean. It also wouldn't hurt to have an exhaust shop do a backpressure test to test the cat converters just to make sure they aren't partially clogged. Most will do this for free.
For info on cleaning the MAF, look thru the READ FIRST thread at the top of this forum, there are detailed instructions in there so that you don't ruin it.

I would contact Hypertech, something must be different or they would list later years.

I think I found the problem. The IRCM contecting rod for the left cylinder bank was disconnected, thus leaving both sets of intake runners (long and short) open at all rpms. I am going to have to clean my MAF also, because I don't believe it has ever been done. Thanks for the link to the maf cleaning post.
