I talked to a man this week-end and he had to replace his tranny at about 58000 miles. 02 F350 dually, PSD. He had the extended warranty, he was happy. Talked to another man' he said the key to avoiding tranny problems is to flush the tranny at the regular intervals. The key he said was to FLUSH the tranny completely of all of the old fluid. He said new and old fluid does not mix well and will cause problems. What do ya'll know about this. Good idea or not? There are only a few dealers that can completely flush the unit. Most just drain and change the filter. Thanks
The tranny behind my V-10 gets loving care, and yes, regular fluid changes are VITAL to long life, as are never over heating the fluid. Most all the 'Quik-Lube' type places change tranny fluid now by pulling off the inlet and outlet lines to the tranny cooler in the radiator, and putting new, clean fluid into the inlet and watching til the fluid coming out into the waste recepticle is clean and shiny. There's a little waste this way but it pretty much guarantees that all the bad, stinky fluid comes out. It usually runs $100 or so, so it aint cheap, but neither is a $2500 transmission, which BTW there is a whole, dedicated board devoted to in the FTE web-site. Glad you could stop by !
I have a V-10. He said the trans are the same in the PSD and the V-10. I guess they are different. Are there any problems with the 4speed auto in the V-10? Thanks
There have been plenty of posts elsewhere about troubles with the 4R100 tranny and the PSD. Hardly any troubles with the 4R100 and V10. Basic maintenance is required either way. A complete flush is the new way of doing service. You can also drain the pan and converter and get most of the old fluid out. (all but like 1-2qts) That is good enough too. My 30k and 60k service were just drain and refill with a new filter at 60k. My 90k service was a complete flush. (had a coupon for $60) So far so good. (knock on wood)
I just got mine out of the shop. At 12k miles the throtle body or some part on it went out. I have not idea how I thought the throttle bobe was only check ***** passages and springs? the whole thing was replaced.
