I have a 2001 F250 SD 4x4 with a 7.3L. 1st problem- It is blowing fuse 15 in the compartment fuse panel. I had an auto electrical shop take a look at it and they said the wiring to the overdrive button was shorted. They replaaced it and the fuse still blows. I know when the fuse has blown when driving because it takes the cruise control if it is not engaged. If engaged I cant tell it has blown unless I check it or restart the truck because it will not let me shift out of park. 2nd problem- When pressing on the gas pedal there are times when the engine will not respond. Depress/press and the engine will respond. I have researched this and believe that the throttle position sensor is part of the pedal. I have sprayed it with contact cleaner but it still does the same. The curious thing is that it will not do it if the cruise is engaged. Are these two problems related or am I looking at two different?
Man, this is a sticky one. It could range from the short in the steering column to the TPS to even the VSS. I don't know why they went into the steering column OD switch based on fuse 15.
Just so you know, and not helping matters, fuse 15 is for: Stop Lamp Switch (logic): Generic Electronic Control Module (GEM), (PCM), (4WABS), Brake Shift Interlock, Cluster and PCM Keep Alive Memory.
Note how the TPS is not among the items there. I have not checked the wiring diagram for it or the TPS though. That would also seem to toss the VSS out.
Sooo, find the #15 fuse short problem and correct. Then see what problems you have. We are looking for a wiring problem. Yeah, it can get frustrating.
I haven't had anyone check for codes. Trying to avoid the high priced dealership. Any suggestions on a code reader? Here is some more info I forgot to include: When driving without cruise and the fuse has blown the problem with the pedal response doesn't appear.
Well, welcome to FTE anyway Fishbait. Most of the folks here like the AE program and if one is close to you they could possibly scan it for you. Where are you at? Unfortunately, a lot of times these electrical problems do not throw a code. Let's see if someone else has had this problem.
In the meantime, I would inspect my fuse contacts and wiring.
where was the wire shorting out and repaired?? they do like to short out a lot under the steering wheel cover...mine did twice..i could see it was repaired by the PO.. then when i went in.. i had to replace the whole shifter..
If the second problem turns out to be purely the TPS, which it sounds to me like it may be, here is the TPS only. They used to sell the whole assembly for over $300 so this is a big break.:
The electrician said the insulation had broke down were the wires break into the steering column. I had found a place that sells the throttle pedal for $120 (dieselsite.com) but $59 sounds much better. Thanks for the help on that one. Ford labels fuse 19 as the idle validation switch.
