Engine cranking to fire time

I'd like some info on how long it takes some of ur 6.0s to crank over.
And if the numbers seen below for my 6.0 are normal.

Cold = 3-4 seconds.
Warm = 2

It always seems slightly harder in the mornings to start (I somewhat expect that). Would could help this?

Thanks

Chris-

Your start times seem to be in the realm of normal, perhaps a little long. There are a few things you can do to help it along if it's not starting to your liking:

1.) Run a good quality fuel additive with a cetane improver.

2.) If you REALLY don't like morning starts, plug your truck in. It sucks a fair bit of juice, but the block heater does warm up the engine plenty and will make cold starts easier in any temperature.

Good luck

turn the key and wait for the glow plug light to cycle off, then turn off key, and let it cycle a second time, then start it. it should start faster.
if it gets cold where you live at night, then yes, plugging it in makes a big difference, also the heater is warmed up in mere minutes when it's plugged in over night.
your crank times dont seem that abnormal, mine takes that long most of the time too. remember it is a diesel, so it doesn't fire right away like a motor with spark plugs

also since the injectors use oil to fire they need to build pressure first

Thanks for the replys. I should've put more detail down as far as location instead of having you assume. Sorry.

All this is with Texas weather.

Run a good quality fuel additive with a cetane improver.
Any suggestions?

remember it is a diesel, so it doesn't fire right away like a motor with spark plugs
Oh yeah, I'm trying to keep things like that mind.

For fuel conditioner:

A lot of folks here like both DieselKleen and Standadyne, both very good products; I have been running the PowerUp Gen 49D product for a while now and really like it.

Do a quick search, there are lots of opinions out there, but generally any decent additive is better than none.

Just as long as it doesn't have alcohol in it.

As per International, engines designed to meet 2004 emission standards, as a rule just don't "fire up" as quick as earlier engines so some increase in cranking times is to be expected. Also, cranking speed is very critical, so at cooler temperatures, 5W-40 syn. or 10W-30 oils can help.

With a remote starter, I never have to count seconds

and it's cooler in the summer / warmer in the winter when I get in...

Will never have another vehicle without a remote starter !

and backup sensors, and navigation, and dezzle
