Your truck looks great. Need to know what you did to the rear. Sets perfect. It seems like your having as much fun with your steering as I am with my lighting quick brakes.
Ed, Are there any Pro or cons to using a stretched stock axle or an aftermarket set up? What was the cost from Mor Dropp?
I've never installed an aftermarket so I can't say. The stretched stock axle is pretty straight forward but there are issues which are a pain such as the draglink and alignment issues. I purchased the complete front end from a friend of mine for $300.00 complete with spindles, etc. By no means did it go in easy and was a piece a cake. More drop wants about $410 for the axle only. They have been around for quite a while.
BB Ford- I started with 8 3/4 inches with the stock axle. The drop axle took my front down to 6 1/4 inches high (ground to bumper) If you remember I had that small rubber band tires in the front. 215/45/17, which I've always hated. It just didn't look right and I still had a gap in the wheelwell, even after the drop. So I got a set of 225/50/17 which did the trick. I'm at 7 inches exactly now. I like it there. The front fender covers about half the tire now and looks much better.
Kurt - I'm going through hell right now with this subject. The guy who had my drop axle before, had the steering arms (part the tie rod connects to) bent down, so there was no need for the tie rod drop bracket like most guys are using. However when they bent the steering arm, it also raised the upper portion (ball end) which is now giving me the bump steer. I just need to somehow bend that upper arm down slightly and I'll be good to go. At this point, I'd recommend using the tie rod bracket. Much easier.
Thanks, I'm not a big fan of bending the connectors (or what ever you want to call them). Does the drop axle mess with the location the the steering box arm connects to? Will I need to bend that down? If so how? oxy/act torck for heat or what? Sorry about all the questions it's just I don't know and could use the advise. Thanks Kurt G. Y-blocks rule.
