Unhappy vibration/stuttering

My truck has started to get a vibration/stutter when Im taking off. It doesnt do it any other time. When Im cruising its fine and if I get on it after Im already moving its fine. When I stop and start taking off I notice it. I havent really looked at anything yet but I thought Id see if anyone else had this problem or knows what it might be.

Could be that spacer....

Okay...I'll stop.

Off throttle hesitation like that can signal a clogged air filter or fuel filter....for starters.

well the truck is lifted but it does have a spacer for the carrier bearing. The air filter is good but I think Im going to change the fuel filter today just because its due anyhow. I cant really tell if its in the drivetrain or engine (ignition/fuel) but it only does it when I initially take off.

oh yeah, monsta. Funny as that spacer rip was, if there was a vacuum leak caused by the spacer I guess it really could cause a hesitation.

Not a joke... once you eliminate all the motor causes like vacuum, fuel delivery, air leaks...check all 4 tires and get the air pressure balanced out on each axle

Because you are lifted I assume larger diameter tires...even with the drive shaft dropped at the center bearing you still might be inducing axle wrap that is causing the issue...have wife or some one drive away as you watch how much the rear pumpkin torques (twists up)... it that is the problem It is very obvious

This may be a long shot, but I had something similar happen. It happened at constant RPM, around 50 MPH, not on start up - but the vibrating/shuttering sounds the same. Turned out to be a bad coil pack. Shook the truck like nuts. Must have really messed up the engine balance. Thought the tranny was going, turned out to be a five minute R&R job.

Anyhow, might be worth throwing a scan tool on and see if there are any codes.

how much lift, and how big of a spacer............

check to compare the lift to spacer ratio:
1/4" spacer for every 1" truck lift!

i've had more than a few guys ask me about the vibration (even i went threw the issue), and some that have bought there truck lifted or even lifted it themselvs didn't put enough spacer on the bearing. if it's not the engine, check the spacer again!

I changed the fuel filter and it really needed it but that was not the problem. It doesnt give any fault codes and Ive looked everything over pretty good so I think it may be the bearing spacing. I checked all the u joints and they all seem good. Ill check the spacer tomorrow. That could be it cause its only during the initial take off. Ill let you know how I make out.

mine started out that way also...........i called a couple lift companies (since my lift was used) and they told me for a 6" lift i only needed a 1" spacer...........that didn't solve it...........i finally got a hold of a place on line that gave me the specs above!

i used a 2x2 piece of square tubing drilled 2 holes, got longer grade 8 bolts, and DUN, no more vibration!

Team Mudd, thanks Ill try that out. I was also thinking axle wrap cause it only does it when I take off but I have traction bars so there shouldnt be much axle wrap going on.

I just measured the spacer on the bearing and its 1" so I think Im going to try the 2x2 tubing and see what that does. Team Mudd did you get the vibration at take off too?

i had a bad vibration at take off. once i got going it was gone. shortly after i called superlift and they directed me toward the spacer issue. i thought it was axle wrap also. turned out a scrap piece of 2x2 square tubing solved the issue!

how much lift do you have?

Team Mudd, thanks for your help. The 2x2 spacer worked. I put it in today and no more vibreation. The truck takes off so much smoother. Thanks again!
