4r100 rebuild
how hard is a 4r100 4wd off of an 04 5.4 superduty to rebuild? im not in need of a rebuild yet, but not wanting to pay 3500 for a new trannie. ive seen the 4r100 guides to rebuild on ebay along with the rebuild kits. anyone ever attempted it? should i just leave it to the professionals?

In my experience with trucks, automatic transmission is the most complex part in a truck, you need a basic knowledge, some special tools, manuals, videos and a lot of brain. I did repair 2 times my E4OD which is almost same as 4R100, is not easy, you can make a mistake in any moment and lost a lot of job and money...

Well i am 23 years old, my 83 chevy's 700r4 was the first automatic that i ever rebuilt and i did it when i was a junior in highschool, it lasted about a month and went out again. so i rebuilt it again. found out that i had two thrust washers mixed up and the clearances were wrong. put it back together and it worked fine and still does. about a week ago i did my 99 F250 4R100 and i still havent had time to put it in yet but it went together very good so i am confident that it should work fine. In my opinion if you have a pretty good idea on mechanic's work and a really good step by step manual you should be fine. there are alot of pieces that look the same but i assure you they are not and they must go in the rite place or it will fail. not trying to scare you just trying to stress how fussy an automatic is and how critical every piece is also.
