Well I hate asking about something that should be so simple but I have looked at so many wires and parts of this truck for alot of hours so it all goes together now lol.
All my blinkers work except the rear drivers side. The rear drivers side lights up when the lights are on and all that but will not blink when the blinker is turned on. The front drivers side works along with the passenger side blinkers but this one just does not want to work. The bulb is good and even changed it out with another working bulb.
This is all I like to fix and it will be back on the road and I can pass inspection.
Well the blinkers all work now but the brake lights do not so I would assume this would be something to do with the stoplight switch mounted on the front of the brake master cyl.?
turn signal cam... mine did the exact same thing, but on the rear driver side... its the cam inside under the steering wheel... not hard to rewire or anything, just get you a new one and get a truck wiring diagram so you can make sure you are wiring everything correct if your colors have faded as some of mine did.
Remove both wires from master and put a jumper wire betwen the two. Check t/l's. If they are on it is the pressure switch. I just went through the same thing.
If the jumper wire trick does not work. All I can guess is a bad ground. Or as tx stated bad cam. I am pretty sure that any kind of pressure, air or brake fluid, will activate switch.
A few more things. On my 65 the brake lights wont work unless key is on. And the front parking lights turn off when the headlights are on. Do you have emergency flashers?
all those sound as the same problems and issues i had... its most likely your turn signal cam. easy to change out and all, and its not that expensive of a part... one little short in that cam can cause all those problems... believe me i know i did as you have, changed the brake sensor, rewired the brake lights, tried to rig the front blinker to the back and the right brake light to the left... non of those worked except for the cam. tried jumping it with the wire as well, try that first to save time and money and effort, but if not buy the cam
No I don't have emergency flashers on my truck. Everything works great including blinkers now just can't get the brake lights to come on regularly as they should.
I need to replace the cam as one of the plastic tabs broke off for it to return to it's regular point after the turn is complete to turn off the turn signal.
Mike, Start at the back of the truck. Look for past splicing. Folk cut the wires to use trailer light connectors and over time they can develop problems. Corrosion around the bulb sockets is another place to pay close attention to.
There are only three wires coming to the rear of the truck. One of those is for your tail light and is shared all around including the license plate light. There is a factory connection near the left corner at the chassis rail that allows the wires to be unplugged for bed removal. I'm sure you have a grounding light for testing, right? If you can get pulsing and current at that connection the problem is at the rear of the truck, if not look toward the front.
The other two are shared. One is for the left and the other for the right brake and turn signal.
As noted the switch has to be on for the signal/brake to work.
My switch wouldn't work without bleeding the master cylinder, but it's not the original master cylinder or switch. Of course you can test the switch easy enough with a test light.
