hey i bought an 89 f150 for 600 bucks, dude said it had a cracked block, but when i got up under there to check it out (it just runs great) the two middle freeze plugs on driver and passenger side were popped out, so i put new ones in (driver side was a bitch had to take the exhaust manifold off) but now when i fill it up it leaks from between the engine and tranny, is there another plugs on the back of the motor? in-between the motor and tranny? thanks alot!
The 300 six does have a freeze plug on the back of the block. It is between the motor and trany in the bellhousing. I don't know about the other motors. I hope this helps you out.
I could be horribly mistaken, but I believe all 6 and 8 cyl. engines within the last few decades have freeze plugs on the rear of the block.
All the engines I've personally rebuilt have had them back there. A couple were really small, but most were the same size as the ones on the sides of the block.
Umm, here's the back of a 302 with the flywheel and backing plate removed. I think you'll see there are freeze plugs back there. Sorry for the bad angle, but I was more interested in showing the drooling rear seal.
