What Gears do I have?

I've been lurking on this board for a while now enjoying all the information in anticipation of purchasing a new truck. Yesterday I bought a new-to-me '01 F350 CC V10 Longbed. However, I don't know what gears it has in the rear-end. Is there any obvious way to identify this without it being listed on a spec-sheet?

Also, one other unrelated question, can anyone recommend a good place to buy a carpet kit for the floor of this truck (front and back)? The truck had everything I was looking for but for some dumb reason it didn't come with any carpet on the floor (it is XLT trim). The dealer claimed the original owner who traded it in ordered it this way. It looks cheap to me and I would like to put some carpet in the truck.

Thanks in advance for any help.

What Gears do I have?

I have the 3.73s with 265\75\16 tires and running 70mph the engine is turning about 2100 rpm. Check and see what your rpm's are at 70mph, thats the easist way I know of checking it..

There should be a tag on the rear axle pumpkin. It'll list your rear gears. I found one on my front axle (a sticker). It was much easier to read.

Of course, what DJR17 said is the easiest method!

BTW, I cannot help you with carpet (unless you visit a salvage yard) but I will certainly take that rubber mat off your hands!! When you swap it out, drop me a note.

There is also a build tag on the driver's side door jam. Possible codes can be found on the thread titled "vin codes" on the 4th page of this forum. There is a pretty good discussion of this on that thread.

There is an option code where you can delete the carpet on an XLT.I'd say the dealer isn't BSing you on that issue.

With the 4.30 gears in mine I'm running @ 2300 rpms at 60mph. As for not having carpet, that is the only way to go. If you spill something it wipes right off. Mud isn't a problem, and I never have to smell a wet, musty smell from the carpet. Carpet belongs in houses, not Superduty Trucks. My .02 worth.

What Gears do I have?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Sep-02 AT 04:36 PM (EST)]I drove the truck on the freeway and at 70 mph it is sitting at about an even 2000 rpm. I've got stock 265/75/R16 tires so I think its safe to assume then that I've got the 373 gears?

What Gears do I have?

What about the code on the door?
C1 = 3.73 Limited Slip
or
31 = 3.73 Non Limited Slip

What Gears do I have?

Just bought a pre-owned 2001 250sd V-10 4x4 with the a door code of 31, dealer checked the decode sheet and said it is 3.73 non-limited slip. 70mph at 2000rpm. Previous truck had limited slip and I already miss it. Thinking about replacing with limited slip, has anyone had experience in this area?

What Gears do I have?

In retrospect, this topic should really be moved to the Super Duty forum. But I'm not the moderator in here...

Ask your question about installing an LS unit, or something similar, up the Super Duty forum as you will have more chances of it being answered rather than buried in here.

FWIW, have your checkbook ready if you plan on doing it. It is not the most inexpensive mod out there. And if you ever even THINK that you may lift and re-gear, do it all at the same time!

I checked the code and it is D1 which is:

D1 — 3.73 limited slip, F-350, single rear wheels

But....I admit my ignorance, what is the difference between limited slip and non-limited slip?
