ok here goes. I have a 1990 f150 xlt with 5.8 4x4 and an auto aod4 ? anyway first my cruise control light goes out(cruise still works) then a few weeks later my high beems light (on the dash) goes out. now my front tank fuel guage is staying on full and a little below full. actually gas was coming out of it (front tank-top somewhere) when i was using my rear tank so i switched to my front and now this. any ideas? i figured it was in my fdm(fuel pump) on my front tank but what about the lights? are they just bulbs?also now i have a bad window motor on the passenger side(cant roll up without help) thanks guys.
Have you taken a look at a wiring diagram? Sounds like you might have blown a component that somehow controls or regulates all your problem areas. If not, I'm clueless--automotive electrical work has never ben my thing.
Sounds like you're having ground issues. By the way, I don't have a "cruise control" light anywhere on my dash. Not sure if it's the same for the 90. Maybe mine is out.
It seems that on 1987-1991 trucks, the light is there regardless of whether the truck is so equipped. For example, the tach dash I pulled recently had a 4WD indicator light, even though the truck was 2WD. Saved Ford some money, no doubt.
I have never seen a cruise light on my dash. I have replaced the cluster and changed all the bulbs. Are you sure there is supposed to be a cruise light?
The window is a very common problem. Do a search and you will find lots of threads about repairing them.
The fuel tank issue is also very common. The in tank pump has a check valve so it won't let the tank fill up when the other pump is running. When the check valve fails, the running pump fills the other tank and can even run it out on the ground. Again do a search and you will find many many threads about repairing this problem too.
The high beam indicator is not a common problem. Might be a bad bulb, but could also be loose wire, bad ground, or who knows. Checking the bulb would be a good place to start. Sorry can't offer more help on that one. Never had the problem, and can't think of anyone else that has written about it either.
Good luck Frank
thanks all now i have no cruise control. put it on the other day and it worked for about 2minutes then quit. it will not work at all and then my tranny started acting weird acting like its low on fluid or something. it doesnt happen all the time it would not change until rpms were higher than normal then bam into 2nd gear. the other gears were fine and then coming to a stop it would downshift hard once then be fine. i pulled the pan and filter and drained the torque converter everything looked ok fluid was low and brownish red . any ideas? i am on my way to get new filter and fluid etc now. i just changed filter and fluid about 4/5 months agotoo.
