i want ti get a spedo that reads faster that 90mph. i want to know if i found or bought a spedo from a 1st gen lightning, could i swap it out for the one thats currently in my truck?
I have a 1994 Flareside XLT with the tach, if this is possible would i need to get one from a 1994 Lightning? or does the year not matter.
also, if i do this, do i need to recalibrate the spedo? and how? my next question, is the mileage stored on the cluster? or in the computer, whisch sends it to the display?
OK The lightening is plug and play as far as it working. It needs to be from a 94-95 truck as there were changes . ie airbag
The mileage is stored in the speedo or center MPH of cluster . It will have to be reset at Ford for mileage as far as I know.
The tire sizes will/ may have to be reset depending on what you are running (Diameter) . so you are actually going 55 MPH when speedo says 55 MPH . Doing this will also help
shifts of an auto trany if you have one. The can be done by going up top to article/specs They have a walk through of how to change it. Good luck
are you sure the mileage is stored in the Spedo? it doesnt make sense to me. I only wanted to change the readout, not the whole cluster, all the lights and suck will remain the same. I want to take apart my cluster, pull the SPEDO ONLY and replace it with a spedo from a 1sg gen lightning
as far as reading the correct speed, my spedometer reaads right at the moment, but the intervals of spee are larger on the stock spedo vs the lightning so when mine would read 80 the lightning would read roughly 110
Well no the mileage is stored in the PSOM and if he uses his old PSOM he will not have to recalibrate anything.
Just change out the head and you will be OK.

He wants to use a lightening 120 MPH (Or what ever) speedo so yes he will have to reset or leave alone and just make down milage diff in glove box. Later

I do not understand what you just said.
The lightening (and all 1992 to 1996 Fords) and the standard 150 use the same PSOM so what are you saying. True there were some improvements in the later ones but they will all interchange.
The mileage is stored inside the PSOM and the tire size as well.
Here is a photo of a PSOM.

alright cool, im guessing thats located behind the spedo? and please spell LIGHTNING right lol you add an extra E
I do not know where the "E" came from but yes it is mounted on the back of the cluster.
The four-center clip looking things is what the spedo head plugs into.
The ribbon connector at the bottom is what the odometer ribbon cable plugs into.
The connector at the top goes to the PCM, VSS and the ABS system.
