I have a '99F350 w/ AT. Trans seems to be slipping when I backup with a trailer hooked up. I haven't noticed any slipping in any forward gears. Fluid level is good and smells and taste ok also. 100,000 miles, filter was changed at 50,000. Would this be a valve or something more drastic?
i have the same problem every morning i leave for work just when i go in reverse outta my driveway seems to slip and then catch i cant figure it out yet
I have the "clunk" when going from a stop. My problem in reverse may be a little different because the transmision seems to engage but I dont have any power until the accelerator is depressed a quarter to half way down. Very noticable when backing a heavy trailer, but also noticable when the engine is warm and backing. Could this be the same issue with the slip joints?
not sure what you mean by heavy..but if you are backing up with a load you should use low rang...the trans is not that strong in reverse
What do you mean "low range"? AS far as I know I just drop it in R . My trouble is not in u-joints. You would have that problem-noise forward or back. I had to back a trailer about 1 block and I had to keep getting on the throttle to get it to hook up.
Would reverse clutchs be different than the others? I thought gearing, valves, etc. would make it go backwards, different clutch pack, that I don't know! Thats why I got on here and was asking. Thanks again.
reverse gear is not as low geared as 1rst gear..its a little harder on the clutches..when ever i back up a big load i always put it in 4x4 low..takes a lot less peddle to get it moving.for you at this point it might be worth changing the flued and filter...
