I can live with that - the 6.4 is no slouch and the Dmax didn't overheat.
I'll be the first to admit the Chevy is ugly, the exhaust blows and the tires are too small. Personally I ripped off my exhaust (went to MBRP - cool duels) and changed the tires and that helped a lil. I honestly don't think that the ford is to bad in regards to looks.
Actually around here I see more Chevy's. I perception is that would tend to be a more regional observation. In fact I've seen places where Dodges seem to rule the roost.
IMO...from the Big Three all the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are impressive! They are very similar...and the tests show that. It comes down to taste once again.
The LMM motor is really impressive, but only time will tell if it lasts for the long haul over the years. If it does, then GREAT...but if not well then that is bad news for chebby.
Let's not forget...that the FORD (all FORD trucks) have a limiting factor break-in period. After 150hrs or 5000+ miles...then the PCM releases the engine to do what it was designed. Turn...and burn!
Are there any Ford techs in here that can verify the break in time/miles theory. If so then those shootouts are worthless gathering of facts!!
It we be nice to hear right from Ford if that's the actuall facts! THeir are a lot of rumors and opinions that float around the forum, but if the 6.4 doesn't run at %100 when brand new then the diesel mags are idiots and should break them in and then test them!
I do not pay that much attention to the Duramax, overall I have not been that impressed with the chevy truck as a whole. It is just my opinion, but I have not been overly impressed with how the rest of the truck hold up after 5 or 10 years. The reason I am writing is how many generations of duramax have we seen? 4 or 5? Why all the changes. I have not heard of many problems with the engine itself, the rest of the truck yes, but the engine apears sound. Ford and Dodge are on their third motors in what, 15+ years? GM is on 4th or 5th in 8 or 9 years? What am I missing?
GM is on it's second diesel - in like almost ever dude. Not really a good argument considering the predecessorto the 6.4 was the shortest lived production diesel ever.

Luckily the 6.4 seems to be doing quite well.
So I guess thats what you would be missing.
GM is on its " Second" diesel?
What was the 6.2 and 6.5?
As well as the 5 diiferent flavors of the 6.6 ( LB7 / LLY / LBZ / LLM / LMM )?
Am I mising something here?

Yes the 6.0 was a short production diesel with only 4.5 years, but the main reason they changed is because they couldn't get the 6.0 to pass the newer emmisions as it was. And the 6.4 is just a bored out 6.0 with another turbo.
first off, hats off to Dmax to sticking around here. Ive seen several of his posts, and i believe them to all be accurate. hes not trying to stir anything up. He calls most stuff like it is. But come on Dmax I KNOW that you know the later 6.0's were great. 05-07's were awesome. The are having very little issues.
The over heating issues are like the same old crap about the 6.0 being a total failure, its just old Now tired of reading about it. The new duramaxes dont overheat like the older ones, and the new 6.0 arent crappy, they are a blast to drive, and good Motors.
Anyways, i know this is off topic, for that i appologize, but just thought id throw in some positive about both the 6.0, and the 6.6 they have both proven themselves i think to be a good solid motor.

Still have not heard if the PCM does not realese the 6.4 to full power until a certain break in mileage or time?????
Starting to think that story might be a crock of you know what??????
I am not trying to flame the Chevy I am just trying to get to the bottom of the 5(?) different duramax. If it is all the same motor then what are the different labels for? On that thought, if the 6.4 is just a stroked 6.0 with different injection and turbos, does that mean it is the same motor with new labels like the Chevy?
Personally I think they changed enough on the 6.4 to make it its own generation, but that is just my opinion.
