Has anyone out there converted to the Banks Stinger system? I called this morning to inquire on it and for a cat-back setup I thought it was somewhat reasonably priced. $625 for the muffler, tailpipe, and intake kit including filter.
I am not sold on getting the Ottomind because I have the 5 speed and as far as I can tell most chips emphasize shift points. I know it would make improvements, but I am looking more at intake and exhaust right now.
I've had the Banks Stinger and Transcommand installed now for about 6 months. I love it. The additional power was noticeable, the exhaust note is much deeper and the Transcommand firms up WOT shifts, without sacrificing soft low-throttle shifts. I paid about $1K installed. The headers and y-pipe to upgrade it to the full Powerpack are next.

So you didn't go with the Ottomind huh? I am thinking about just going with the Stinger for now and if I decide I want to part with $1100 in the future, I will go ahead and get the Torque-tubes.
Nope- I did the cost/benefit analysis and decided that the Ottomind wasn't a very good investment. I'll save the money and use it on the TorqueTubes and y-pipe. I'm not entirely sold on chips anyway.

I'm with ya on the chip worthiness. I am espescially skeptical of their value having a manual transmission. Looks like you are the only one on the board that has converted and I appreciate your insight.
I haven't priced any of the other cat-back systems, but I can't imagine any stainless cat-back exhaust being much less than $500-$600. I am gonna go ahead and take the plunge!
One other question, did you purchase direct or go through a distributor? They seem reluctant to tell me who sells them in my area. I haven't asked them on the phone who sells in my area, but on email when asked all I got was, "I can get you a better price than a distributor".
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Sep-02 AT 05:00 PM (EST)]I've had the whole power pak installed (intake, headers, y-pipe, cat-back, and trans-command) at once. I didn't do the Ottomind for the sole reason that it wasn't available for my ECU code at that time.
Once the chip was available, I bot it, installed it, and WOW! it really made a big difference in throttle response. I was really impressed, and glad I got it. In fact, my Ex is actually my wife's daily driver, and she hates it when I pull the Ottomind out whenever she takes it in for service (the Ottomind produces "screwy" output on the computer reader computer thingy).
I (we) run regular gas (87) in it, and it only pings when towing with 87 (ping goes away with mid-range gas (89)). So, I fill it with 89 whenever I tow my Cobra to the racetrack.
Hey Cobra, I am assuming you are running an automatic? I think I am gonna go the route that gunner went and just go w/ the catback. Appreciate your input.
Camping World?????? What state are you in? There is one of those stores about 70-80 miles from me. I will have to give them a call. I would be a happy CAMPER if I could get into this thing for less than $600.
I'm in Kalifornia- I'm right in between two CW stores- each one is about 30 miles away. I was quite surprised when I found out they had the best price!

I think any chip's gonna cost a few hundred bucks, so I think the question is whether you want a chip, and if you do, then do you want a Banks chip or some other chip.
The Banks chip made a significant improvement in throttle response - just touch the "go pedal" and she goes... And the Banks chip doesn't require premium fuel, so the on-going cost-of-ownership of this chip is lower than other chips on the market (that require premium fuel).
After installing the complete PowerPak kit from Banks, my next step for more power is a blower kit(with new injectors, MAF, fuel pump, etc...). Now, I don't have the cash for one right now, so it's not a timely issue. However, if I only had a few hundred bucks to spend on improving drivabilty and if I didn't already have a chip, then I would buy a chip.
Al, the following url is to a Banks web page showing what they say are improvements in torque and hp for the V10, with and without Ottomind. You might take a look and decide for yourself.
