Rear Differential fill port?

Getting ready to put my new '08 diff cover on this evening and I have a dumb question?? Can Anyone confirm that the fill port for the Dif housing is on the front/ left /lower part of the housing? I know the housing is supposed to hold almost 7 pints. and this looks awful low on the housing to hold that much fluid??

I told you it was a dumb question but I had to ask...

I did my cover a short while ago and yes that is the plug. It will take all 7 pints to fill ,don't forget friction modifier if you have ls. 3/8 ratchet is all you need to take out the plug.

Don't know about your diff, but all the ones I ever played with had a plug with a square 3/8 socket in it. So use your 3/8 ratchet and unscrew it. Some plugs are the male version, ie square peg instead of square hole.

Some of these plugs are in there really tight and a cheap ratchet or extention may twist off, I have done this before. All the ones I have seen are right hand thread.

Not many other plug like things on a differential so unlikely to goof. I could be wrong tho.

The fluid should be either a half inch down or more usually level with the hole. Regular diff lube stinks. Other lube is just ATF and red and thin.

Good Luck,
