Mileage Report

Thought I'd put in my mileage experience with the V-10 in a 2000 Excursion 4x2 with the 4:30 gear package.
Around town and short trips 12.8 to 13.4 mpg. On a long trip down I-95 at 60 to 78 mph. I averaged 16.4mpg. This is only 1 mpg worse than my 1997 E.B. Expedition.

I might as well do the same. I've got 39K on my Y2K Xcursion 4x4. My mileage is the same as yours! I have a 3.73 rear end, though. On certain flat parts in Maine @ 70mph I will average 17.1!! Gas hog my a##!! This truck is great on fuel considering it's size (read:non-aerodynamic)and weight.

Mileage Report

Oh hi,

I have 2001 F250 CC 4x4 SB V10 Auto 4.30 with 2200 miles.
After 600 miles did my first towing. 10 hour trip one way. My trailer is a tall 22' weighing about 5000 lbs. The pick-up bed is loaded with 750 lbs.

Trip is from San Jose to Laughlin NV crossing Techapee pass at 4400' Gas mileage average was about 8. Average speed about 65 mph, 1/2 the time in overdrive.

Around town gas mileage is about 11.

Will it get any better?

I really don't know how the mileage will change as the miles roll up. When I purchased my Excursion it had nearly 9000 miles on it. It's got 19,000 miles now and in this time period the mileage has increased by 1 mpg.
I haven't done much towing like RollingStone but I'm sure the mpg would suffer.
I guess I should mention that 90% of the time I use the lower octane gasoline
Almost nobody believes that I can get over 16 mpg on my Excursion especially since I have the lower ratio differential. I think if I were to take it easy on the gas pedal, you know baby it a little, I could get 17 mpg or dare I say, even better.

Boy...Hope my mileage improves...lol...just picked up my 02 F250 V10 Crew Cab last week. Only checked one time so far...but was 10.8...yeiks...hope it improves with the miles (only 750 so far). How long does it take to see an improvement on mileage on these beasts? I just replaced my 01 F150 Super Crew which was getting 17 mpg combined (a little more on the road) with the 5.4 V8.

So, what do you think I can expect. 3.73 gear ratio automatic.

Trainman - I have the 350 CC w/ the 3.73, but it is a 4X4. Is yours 2wd? Anyway, I have @3,500 miles and get anywhere from 9.5 to 12.9 mpg, depending on speed, towing etc. I also turn off the OD when driving in town so that probably decreases my mpg a bit then. I do that because I am annoyed by the transmission shifting into and out of od all the time when driving in varied traffic between 35 and 45 mph.

Yep, it's the 2WD...hope that will be better. Haven't done any towing yet, but will in a few months. I don't expect too much when towing but thought it would be a little better on short trips aroudn town and to and from work. Then again with only 750 miles..can't expect too much. Will check this weekend on a trip to Sacramento and see what it registers freeway only.

Thanks!

Well its all in the eyes of the beholder! Put 18,000 lbs behind it and cold weather and tell me it is great. I sold mine and now run a PSD. With the forementioned weights I beat yours at cruise....its not how big but how you use it I guess. My V10 was at 6.5 MPG and that was BEST in class....My 7.3 PSD is now at 13.9 MPG. If all you do is drive to the store for bread the 10 will do but if you use it like the big boys it can't pay for itself.:-(

It was not my intention to complain...I love the truck regardless of the milage. Besides, gas is low enough now to drive it and enjoy it too! lol When it gets too high again...I'll drive the Mustang.
By the way, I took it to Sacramento Friday night....15+ mpg going north...12+ mpg coming home (south)...guess I should drive north all the time! lol

Later!
