Hot weather problem
I have a hot weather problem, been going on for 2-3 summers, but only when temps are over 90 or so. Truck is a 96 F150 w/5.0 (302?), auto trans.
Problem is when I leave a stoplight (only in hot weather, hot enough to have A/C on), it bucks/surges, boggs down, lack of power and acceleration, then in 5-10 seconds, it has 'cleaned' itself out and runs fine. I have been under impression of too rich, but I know hydrocarbons are raw fuel and a lean misfire can give same scent. Yes, I was getting a little fuel smell once in a while while it was bogging down, so I changed out the fuel pressure regulator (FPR?) a couple of weeks ago, and that helped tremendously, but problem is now like it was maybe 3 summers ago. Last year at this time I did plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter, etc, Helped maybe 1-2 mpg, but didnt solve the hot weather problem! I know, I should not have waited 2-3 years to fix, but ( excuses, excuses) I switch to riding on two wheels most of summer, and I'm not in areas with lots of traffic and long stoplights on a daily basis either....
In gear at stoplight, the truck idles OK, then starts to shake a little, but never seems like it going to die, and I dont see any change on tach. But when it shakes, I know its going to not have any power for a few seconds. Slipping into Nuetral helps just a little, it may then 'clean itself out' quicker and run fine, til next long stoplight. Mileage doesnt seem to change much from summer to winter.
So any help or ideas before I just start putting $ out. Have to fix it this month or next, or I will have to wait til next year for the heat to come on again!
I was having problems running with the A/C on......cleaned the IAC......took it off...opened it up and sprayed with lots of TB cleaner ......doing ok now.....might want to try it.
Good Luck
Bob
