I have been checking out all the posts and have gotten some idea of what could be wrong with my 2000 F250 SD V10, but here is what has been going on with it. Maybe I can get some more insight to the problem.
When I do a cold start it won't idle unless you hold the gas down and the brake. Sometimes it will be ok when it warms up, but most times if I brake and come to a stop it will quit running. This will happen for a few days to a week and then it seems fine for a week and then does it again. A friend told me to get gas a different place, tried that and it seemed to help, but has happend again. I'm thinking it could be carbon build up on the EGR Valve... Where in the heck is the EGR located... Yes I'm a blond, and I don't want to get scammed by a sleezy mechanic. I know you guys would help me out. Does this sound like the EGR?
Help.... I'm wearing my brakes out starting my truck
Sounds like the Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve. Mine did the same thing and I replaced the IAC and it is worked fine since. Check out this link for more info.
Thanks for your help guys! Is that something I would need to get from a dealership or can you get it aftermarket? Any idea of a price range? and how hard is it to do yourself!

Try aftermarket first but dealership should definantly stock it. I'm not sure of the price. Compare prices by going to www.fordpartsonline.com

Easy. Some folks just remove it and use carb cleaner to clean it out and make sure the plunger inside is moving freely. I'd try that first. Look, if you screw up the gasket though, you'll either have to buy or make a new one, so be mindful of it! :7
